This original musical presents the fascinating, true story of Mary Carleton who was born in Canterbury in 1642 and who, at the time was nicknamed ‘The Crafty Whore of Canterbury’.

The restoration period was an age when countless people were reinventing themselves and claiming fortunes after the Interregnum. Mary was no exception.
She scandalised society with her guile, deceit, shameless bigamy, and creative reinvention. She assumed numerous aliases, most famously fleeing to Germany where she invents Maria Von Wolway, a German Princess.
She was thrice tried for bigamy and became infamous garnering such public interest with admirers including Samuel Pepys.

But what befalls Mary, the original German Princess?
