Light Up the Night – a celebratory Diamond Jubilee walk through the City of Canterbury

2022 marks 60 years of Canterbury Christ Church and we invite you to join us as we Light Up the Night in a spectacular launch of our Jubilee celebrations.

Join us as we follow a light trail from Augustine House along the city walls, into our beautiful and historic City. Our route takes us into The Precincts and past the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral. Our celebratory walk ends with a warm welcome, music, and a glass of mulled wine outside the Verena Holmes Building on our North Holmes Road campus.

We ask everyone participating to festoon themselves with lights, carry lanterns and torches – the brighter the better! There will be a prize for the best decorated person or group.

While Covid restrictions have been eased, we are conscious that Covid rates remain high, and to ensure everyone's wellbeing we have made some changes to the original plans for the event. This includes making this an entirely outdoor event, and an amended route.

  • Gather at 4.45pm at Augustine House, Rhodaus Town, Canterbury
  • Walk commences at 5.15pm
  • Drinks reception, music and entertainment outside the Verena Holmes building on the North Holmes Road campus from 6pm
  • Address from the Vice Chancellor at 7pm

Route: From Augustine House we will walk through the City, past Canterbury Cathedral and gather at Verena Holmes building. Anyone with accessibility concerns about the route should contact Frances Dawson ([email protected]).

To ensure the safety of all participants the normal University regulations on face coverings will apply.
