The annual Michael Nightingale Memorial Lecture is a joint event run by the Centre for Kent History and Heritage in association with the Agricultural Museum, Brook.

In 2021 we are delighted that Professor Catherine Richardson from the University of Kent and a specialist in early modern material culture, including work on the household of this 'middling sort' will give this lecture. Catherine has been working with the Weald and Downland Museum for several years, including recently as part of her AHRC-funded project. This builds on her 'A Day at Home in Early Modern England: Material Culture and Domestic Life, 1500-1700' where she explored the lived experience for those below the elite in Tudor and Stuart England - what they ate, where and how they worked, how the household was managed and how they spent their leisure time.

Due to social distancing measures, space is limited, so please do book your free ticket for this public lecture. Car parking available next to the hall. The organisers hope to live stream the lecture, the joining URL will be available in the Centre's blog the week before at www.blogs.canterbury.ac.uk/kenthistory

Please do not attend the event if you are experiencing a high temperature, cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. While face coverings are no longer compulsory, we would encourage our visitors to wear them, especially within busy indoor spaces.
