Canterbury Christ Church University is pleased to welcome Bernadette Hawkes as part of our Black History 365 programme. This lecture was postponed from March 2021.

Bernadette Hawkes is a semi-retired Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist; she has supervised trainee psychotherapists and colleagues in the voluntary sector. She was the Clinical Director at the Women’s Therapy Centre in London. She has lectured at IPSS and other organizations and has published several papers. For a time, she was the Book Reviews Editor and contributor to the International Journal of Psychotherapy. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, she worked in the Probation Service at main-grade and as a Senior Probation Officer for 17 years. She is particularly interested in African-American & African Caribbean literature and its uses in psychotherapy.

Bernadette is a volunteer with Age UK (Thanet) and is currently a music radio show presenter and writes a blog about her weekly radio show, which covers a wide range of musical genres.
