For Bede, learning and apostolic life together formed the cornerstone of mission. His celebration of the great centres of monastic scholarship like Canterbury is part of his challenge to the church of his own day, and this lecture will look at how he uses these traditions as a critical memory, capable of renewing a vision of the Church’s responsibility.

A lecture given by Rowan Williams, The Right Revd Lord Williams of Oystermouth and 104th Archbishop of Canterbury.
