1 - Clay

We’ll draw it in its raw, wet state, stripped of context and form. In its crags and lumps, slips and smears, we saw terrain, or something else. Implements for this session will be clay pastels.

Drawing Materials is an evolving series of material-led drawing sessions devised by artist Bethan Lloyd Worthington.

It’s like a life drawing class, but with stuff; participants look closely at and draw raw materials. Drawing is a way of spending time with a thing, and so understanding it more deeply.

Past participants have included archaeologists a basket-maker, historians, a surgeon, a shelf stacker, a photographer, a carer and various manifestations of artist. Everyone is welcome and no experience at all is necessary.

Each session is themed around a particular material - making drawings of a thing in its own matter.

This event has been generously supported through the use of public funds by Arts Council England
