Introduction to Drama: Staging and Text

Friday 9 February 2018|10am-12pm|6 sessions

Tutor: Andrew Humphries | Canterbury campus | £64

Examining drama from Greek theatre to the modern day, we will read or rehearse key scenes as part of an interactive exploration of drama that combines lecture delivery on historical background and stage convention with rehearsal of scenes from key texts. The focus will be largely on the influences upon and then development of British drama
but will also refer to Irish and American playwrights in this respect. We will begin with the Greeks, moving on to Shakespeare and his contemporaries, ending with a look at
20th Century theatre and film.

This course is for anyone interested in discussing drama, whether as an expert or a newcomer, and who is willing to act a part in an enjoyably interactive but informal setting.
