Art History: The Renaissance in Europe

The Renaissance is a fascinating time in history, especially for the arts. There was a rebirth of interest in classical culture, which was then emulated through the painting and sculpture of the time and still has influence today.
This 10-week course highlights the issues of the renaissance in Italy and Northern Europe. Subjects such as the importance of the patron, the use of art in religion and how these factors influenced the artwork of Michelangelo, Van Eyck and others is explored. The course will also discuss the cultural and spiritual influences of the time, the significant individuals and events to provide a complete and comprehensive view of the Renaissance.
